By definition an “Intermodal Logistics Center” means a facility or group of facilities, including but not limited to, an “inland port,” serving as a point of intermodal transfer of freight in a specific area physically separated from a seaport and/or an airport where activities relating to transport, logistics, and goods distribution, consolidation, or value-added activities are carried out and whose activities and services are designed to support or be supported by conveyance or shipping through one or more seaports and/or airport.
Interporto Marche inland port is located close to the Ancona- Falconara airport (km 5) and Ancona sea-port (km 25) and is the key infrastructure for the cargo handling and distribution in Central Italy and along the Adriatic coastline. It enjoys a strategic position eastbound to the Balkan countries, southbound to the Mediterranean maritime routes and westbound to the Tyrrhenian and Atlantic traffic and northbound to the Northern European corridors, Lisbon-Kiev and Hamburg directions.
Interporto Marche company, Ancona sea port Authority and Ancona Falconara Airport company signed a Memorandum of Understanding on 7th Feb 2006 and a further co-operation agreement was made on 10th November 2009 by Ancona sea port Authority and Interporto Marche company.
