A freight village is a defined area within which all activities
relating to transport, logistics and the distribution of goods,
both for national and international transit, are carried out by
various operators. Rail transport is the key element for an
efficiently running freight village connected to sea-ports,
airports and major road and motorway networks. It houses
both covered and indoor areas for different uses, namely
storage areas, parking and facilities. The first 5,000 sq.mt
of indoor areas are built in the industrial logistics area but,
the aim of the Company is to reach the construction of the total
45,000 licensed indoor area in compliance with the Italian
Environment Ministry directives.
The Jesi FV facilities -in full operation by the end of 2007- are located in Jesi and, thanks to its geographical position is able to offer a wide range of integrated facilities and services, making it the ideal place for intermodal and logistics operations. Built nearby the North-South national route S.S.16 and the pay-toll Austostrada A14, along the East-West national railway and the national route S.S. 76 from Ancona to Rome, Jesi freight village is the natural crossroad for goods in transit from the nearby seaport of Ancona (Km 25) and the Ancona-Falconara airport (Km 10) and is a focal point for the economic development and employment growth for the neighbouring Marche and Umbria regions. Also, Jesi FV is a fundamental asset for the optimisation of the transport system and city logistics activities.
Moreover, "Assointerporti" (The Association of freight villages made of 11 members throughout Italy) strongly remarks the strategic nature of the Jesi infrastructure located nearby the Adriatic motorway and compliant with the Adriatic Corridor Project requirements sponsored by European Community.
The cost of the completion is estimated around 90 million Euro and a 25% reduction of transport costs will be granted by its operativeness and an efficient running management.
