TRANSPORTS: Italian left-wing (Partito Democratico) Member of the European Parliament, Ms.SERRACCHIANI declares that the Baltic-Adriatic transport corridors stays in Italy.

04/05/2010

(ANSA) - BRUXELLES, 4th May- “High was the risk to be left with empty hands. In Bruxelles, Italy managed to pass its first test: the Baltic-Adriatic transport corridor stays in Italy on Trieste direction as well as on Bologna and Ravenna branch”. This is Ms.Debora Serracchiani’s statement in the aftermath of the Transports and Tourism commission voting session of today on the European rail freight network
“In recent months Mr.Antonio Cancian, Mr.Carlo Fidanza and I – reminds Ms.Serracchiani – have been working hard to make sure that the north-eastern Italy is equipped with such a fundamental infrastructure. Therefore, the positive response of the Commission to the amendment proposal of keeping the Baltic-Adriatic corridor branches reaching Trieste and Monfalcone sea-ports and Venice, Bologna and Ravenna sea-ports is a terrific achievement.” However, the Italian MEP underlines that “the work is not done because it is a European Parliament plenum session final decision making we expect. The game is not over yet since we face a very fierce competition from Slovenia. As a matter of fact, a last minute oral proposal made by the Slovenian MEP, Ms.Tania Fajon, scored the extension of the Baltic-Adriatic corridor to Koper sea-port. Thus, I urge -adds Ms.Serracchiani- a full political commitment of all Italian representatives to play this game. This is the political strategy all European countries representatives will undoubtedly implement”.
